What was the nature of this security breach?
West Publishing Corporation, the vendor of the software that has provided case management systems for the Wyoming Judicial Branch, experienced a data security breach involving court information from court systems. Wyoming Judicial Branch computer systems were not part of the attack and were not affected.
What information was involved?
Information on the Wyoming Supreme Court and district courts was affected. At this point, we understand that personal information, including names, addresses, and dates of birth, was compromised, but the Wyoming Judicial Branch continues to work with law enforcement and the vendor to determine next steps.
How and when did this happen?
The breach occurred in the spring of 2026. The Wyoming Judicial Branch learned of the breach in late July and, upon reviewing the impacted data, determined that limited personal information was involved in the breach in August 2026. Bad actors accessed West Publishing Corporation’s systems through a vulnerability in its infrastructure.
How many people does this impact?
We are still working through the information to determine how many people were affected and what information was compromised. However, we believe that the individuals primarily affected are those who came into contact with the district courts or Supreme Court between 2015 and 2025. Even though Wyoming Judicial Branch software and computer systems were not impacted, the Judicial Branch continues to actively monitor and block threats from bad actors. Court users should feel confident that their information remains safe.
