Legal Aid of Wyoming is a statewide, non-profit law firm providing assistance in civil legal matters to low-income citizens of Wyoming. A tribal advocate is also on staff to provide services to members of the Wind River Indian Reservation.

After being screened and qualified, hotline callers can speak to an attorney, get legal advice, and apply for extended services. Individuals can also schedule an appointment with a hotline attorney online and apply for services online 24/7.

Teton County Access to Justice Center (TCATJC) is a self-help resource center and offers free legal services to income-qualified persons in Teton, Sublette, and Lincoln counties.

The Civil Legal Services Clinic is a statewide project that assists Wyoming residents with legal issues related to federal assistance benefits (including SSI and SSD denial appeals), federally subsidized housing (including Section 8 and other programs), housing discrimination, and rental housing conditions, as well as cases that further disability, indigenous, and racial justice within the state and its communities.

The Family and Child Legal Advocacy Clinic offers legal assistance and information that emphasizes dispute resolution, providing unbundled legal services, and extending legal information to self-represented litigants. Under the direct supervision of an experienced supervising attorney, student attorneys tackle civil legal issues, such as divorce, child custody, domestic violence, adoption, guardian ad litem appointments, and select immigration matters. Student attorneys also represent individuals in cases of child abuse and neglect, and termination of parental rights, with a special focus on resolutions tailored to families’ needs.

The Defender Aid Clinic focuses on post-conviction litigation and early release efforts, including pursuing sentence reduction motions, habeas corpus motions, motions to correct illegal sentences, and post-conviction claims of legal innocence for state and federal defendants.

The Estate Planning and Probate Clinic provides estate planning and administration services for qualifying estates to low-income individuals in Wyoming. The Clinic drafts estate planning documents to assist clients in controlling the disposition of their property after death, as well as estate planning documents that are typically relied at the end-of-life. The Clinic offers services to estates that qualify for Summary Probate Procedures (generally estates less than $200,000). The Clinic’s mission is to help its clients maximize control over their end-of-life decisions and to secure their families’ future in the event of incapacity or death.

The Wyoming Children’s Law Center, Inc. (WCLC) provides legal assistance in cases involving a child’s health, safety, education, or well-being, including juvenile court proceedings, education rights advocacy, access to health care and guardianship cases. WCLC also offers free mediation services in child disputes and reduced fee guardian ad litem services.

The Wyoming Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (WCADVSA) represents low-income victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking with family law, housing, education, immigration, and economic issues with an emphasis on safety and self-sufficiency. The Coalition is a statewide program, providing holistic legal services to victims in every county of Wyoming.

The Wyoming Immigrant Advocacy Project (WIAP) promotes and defends the rights of all immigrants through affordable direct legal services, community education, and systemic advocacy. The organization is the first and only comprehensive legal aid program for immigrants in Wyoming. WIAP offers free and sliding scale representation, serves as a community resource for reliable information about immigration law and policy, and trains and partners with private attorneys in providing low-cost immigration assistance.

Equal Justice Wyoming offers self-help services. Self-represented litigants can use computer kiosks to research legal issues and learn about other legal services and resources.

The Teton County Access to Justice Center Self-Help facilities are available in the Teton County Law Library.

The Wyoming State Bar’s Modest Means Program is a reduced fee referral program designed to make legal services accessible to lower and moderate income people who are not eligible for legal aid services. Participating attorneys agree to charge more than $1,000 for a retainer and no more than $100 per hour for their services. Filing fees and other out-of-pocket costs must also be paid by the client.

Can’t afford an attorney? Need assistance with filling out legal forms? Have questions about the court system?
Get free legal information from a Volunteer Reference Attorney!

A volunteer attorney will be available for brief one-on-one visits with community members who are unable to afford the services of an attorney. These will be information meetings that may include instruction in filling out legal forms and navigating the court system. No consultation for criminal matters, traffic matters, or business matters (which includes the owning and management of rental properties).

Free. First come, first served.

The goal of the Court Navigator Pilot Project is to provide increased access to justice for self-represented litigants. The role of the court navigator will be to provide guidance for self-represented litigants to help navigate the court system. Court Navigators will assist with:

Assisting with pro se forms;
Providing procedural information;
Offering legal/community referrals; and
Guiding litigants through court processes and etiquette.

They also have many other books and databases that discuss the law and information needed to bring a specific type of case through the courts. These resources are primarily designed for law students and attorneys practicing law. However, they can be useful for others interested in researching an area of law, too. You may have to visit the law library in-person to use specialized resources.
