JUDICIAL RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Wyoming Supreme Court Chief Justice E. James Burke announced today that Third Judicial District Court Judge Dennis L. Sanderson will be retiring from the court, effective January 4, 2015. Judge Sanderson has served the citizens of this state as a district judge with distinction for over 13 years. He was appointed to the district court bench in March, 2001 by Governor Jim Geringer.
Judge Sanderson was raised on a farm in Freedom and lives in Afton, Wyoming. He graduated from Utah State University receiving his Bachelors Degree in 1970. He received a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1974 and was admitted to the Wyoming State Bar on September 11, 1974.
Judge Sanderson engaged in the general practice of law from 1974 until 2001. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he served as the county and prosecuting attorney for Lincoln County and also served as attorney for the Town of Afton. He served on the Wyoming State Bar Grievance Committee from 1983 to1989, and was a Wyoming State Bar Commissioner from 1991 to 1994. He also served as a District Court Commissioner for the Third Judicial District in Lincoln County for ten years.
According to Judge Sanderson, “This has been the most challenging and yet fulfilling job I have ever had. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to serve the people of Wyoming as a judge in the Third Judicial District.”
The entire judiciary unites in wishing Judge Sanderson, his wife, Koral, their six children and 18 grandchildren, well in retirement.
