Wyoming Supreme Court Participates In Girls & Boys State Activities

CHEYENNE – Miss Piggy, resplendent in a cocktail dress, white gloves and a string of pearls, gave opening testimony at the trial of the State vs. Alexander T. Wolf (aka the Big Bad Wolf) for committing two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.  Mr. Wolf allegedly caused the undue suffering of little pigs Pork and Babe, which compelled them to seek safety in Miss Piggy’s brick house (Kermit the Frog was visiting at the time).  Supreme Court Justice Kate Fox and some of the Court’s staff attorneys provided a rendition of the classic fairy tale as a mock trial for the 2017 Girls State delegates on June 12^th.  Before wrapping up their day in the courtroom at the Laramie County Complex, the group also spoke with Judge Catherine Rogers about courtroom etiquette and with Judge Toni Healy about the roles and responsibilities of the participants in the courtroom setting.

While the Boys’ State presentation didn’t involve an adaptation of a children’s fable, Justice Keith Kautz did provide an informative presentation to the 2017 Boys State delegates in the Supreme Court courtroom, and the group then toured the Judicial Learning Center located on the 1^st floor of the building.  Prior to that, the delegates took photos with Governor Mead outside the building and spoke with Secretary of State Murray, Representative Zwonitzer, and several agency directors in the courtroom.

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary sponsor and conduct Boys State and Girls State programs to further the belief that young citizens who are familiar with the operation of our system of government will be better prepared to uphold its ideals and maintain it for future generations.
