AmeriCorps VISTA Program

AmeriCorp VISTA Program

In 1964, inspired by John Kennedy’s creation of the Peace Corps, Lyndon Johnson created the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program to involve people in national service dedicated to anti-poverty efforts.  Since then, more than 180,000 VISTAs have served throughout America to build capacity in non-profit organizations and public agencies.

VISTA Life in Wyoming

AmeriCorps VISTA Program

VISTA members:

  • Serve for one 12-month term.
  • Receive a living allowance every two weeks.
  • Earn an education award to pay toward past student loans or future schooling OR earn an end-of-year stipend.
  • Gain invaluable experience and give back to the communities they serve.
  • Make lasting connections with professionals working in access to justice, housing, and public health organizations.

Equal Justice Wyoming sponsored its first AmeriCorps VISTA in 2016. Since then, we have become an intermediary program with VISTAs serving at subsites across the state.  Each VISTA commits to a full year of serving in Wyoming.
