Help with Housing Costs

All Wyoming counties through the county treasurer will give a property tax refund of up to one-half of the prior year’s property tax. The Wyoming Department of Health provides annual tax refunds to individuals 65 and over or residents with disabilities.

The program helps pay for the cost of basic local telephone services.

Qualified low-income older adults. You are automatically eligible if you are in one of the following programs:

• Medicaid
• Supplemental Security Income(SSI)
• Federal Housing Assistance/Section 8 Programs
• Food Stamps
• Low Income Home Energy Assistance Programs
• Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) General Assistance, and
• Tribally Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

The Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS) administers the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), which is funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. LIEAP helps eligible residents cover a portion of their monthly winter heating bills, receive help with heating emergencies, and improve their home’s energy efficiency. Approved households qualify for a one-time benefit for heating emergencies such as utility deposits, shut-off notices, broken furnaces, or running out of fuel. The Wyoming Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps eligible low-income households save money on energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. Weatherization usually includes adding insulation, sealing leaks around doors and windows, and checking for basic health and safety issues. These improvements can help save 5-25% on heating bills. WAP is a federally funded program of the U.S. Departments of Energy and Health and Human Services and is administered by the Wyoming Department of Family Services. The program is available year-round.
